How many of you remember from elementary school science class where you learned about static electricity where you rub your feet on the carpet walk up to your friend and shock them? Well, it was funny back then in elementary school, but not so funny in a manufacturing plant these days. In fact, there have been a number of cases where static electricity has not only shocked people, but damaged components or damaged a finished good, and in some cases is even started fires.

An Ethernet switch is a piece of networking hardware used to connect multiple Ethernet devices on the same network. It uses what is called packet switching to receive and forward data to destination devices without causing packet collisions. Switches increase the flexibility of network structures by allowing you to create different topology layouts with your wired Ethernet devices. Those topologies include line, star, tree (a combination of both line and star) and ring.

So, the cool thing about MTS Sensors (now Temposonics) TempoLink Smart Assistant is there is two ways to connect to it. One is wirelessly. So, you can take a smartphone or a tablet or your laptop and just power up the TempoLink. And you will see a network called a TempoLink, you can connect to that use a serial number off the TempoLink Smart Assistant itself as your password. And then when you pull up a web browser and type in TempoLink.local, you have access to the information that we are going to look at next.
