SMC Multi-axis controllers

Video Transcript:

Welcome to Scott Equipment Company’s Automation Simplified Video Series. Today we are going to be talking about SMC Corporation’s multi and single axis controllers for their electric actuators.

As many of you know, SMC Corporation offers a great lineup of electric actuators from rotaries and grippers for end of arm tooling, as well as linear and ball screw and belt drive. Now, the cool thing about SMC many people do not know is that they offer transition plates so you can mount a ball screw and a belt drive to make a gantry or Cartesian up to three axes. But more importantly, they offer a great lineup of electric actuator controllers. SMC offer the LECP1 programless controller, which means no software, no comm cable, no drivers to install on a laptop, matter of fact, you will not even need your laptop. You can do everything from the faceplate of the controller.

You also have the discrete controller up to 64 axes. It is the program version of this controller, where you do need software and a comm cable and must install drivers on your laptop, but still especially useful, very functional works with any of the actuators. Additionally, there is the JXC Series of controller which has a level up from these. The SMC JXC Series gives you EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, Profinet, but more importantly, you can also get this an IO-link. Now, in addition to that, you can also get this series of controller and actuators and battery less absolute which means if you lose power to your controller or an actuator, there is no need to rehome after a power loss, right. But the last thing I want to show you is they have a three and this four-axis controller which is available in PNP/NPN as well as Ethernet IP.
