The new O300 miniature laser sensors with IO-Link by Baumer are the specialists for the reliable detection of very small objects and gaps. Thanks to a laser beam which focuses to within 0.1 mm and the high repeat accuracy of 0.1 mm, objects can be positioned with high precision and follow-up processes controlled exactly. Thanks to the extremely short response time of less than 0.1 ms, the sensor reliably detects even closely spaced objects, thus allowing fast processes and high throughput rates. A big advantage is the exact alignment of the laser beam to the fixing holes by design (qTarget). Thanks to qTarget, detection with pinpoint accuracy can be guaranteed over the entire series.

The wear free teach-in method (qTeach) allows easy, user-friendly commissioning of the laser sensor. The weak point of the pushbutton or potentiometer is ruled out with the tamper-resistant teach-in method qTeach, thus offering maximum reliability and system availability.

The O300 laser product portfolio has great diversity, offering tailor-made solutions for precise detection tasks. Among the five sensor principles to choose from, SmartReflect, the original light barrier without a reflector, must be highlighted. Even reflecting objects with a size of 0.5 mm can be reliably detected within a sensing distance of 250 mm. Stainless steel variants in a rugged washdown and hygienic design extend the typical applications of the O300 laser sensors for packaging plants in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Thanks to IO-Link integration, the O300 laser sensors are “Ready for Industry 4.0”. IO-Link allows the quick and easy configuration of sensors for all applications using standard network components. In addition, available additional data, e.g. for predictive maintenance processes, can be evaluated.

Baumer Fiber Optic SensorsBaumer Fiber Optic Sensors

  • Large selection of sensing heads
  • Plastic and glass fiber optics
  • Fiber optic amplifiers in different versions
  • Detecting filling levels or leaks

The benefits of Baumer Fiber Optic Sensors are that they are designed for intallation in very cramped or difficult to access locations.  In addition, they are designed for harsh ambient conditioins and are heat and chemical resistance, are extremely fast (< 0.05ms), have a range of up to 3.5m and can be used in complex installations or drag chains.

Because of their versatality, fiber optic sensors match most application requirements. Baumer uses different fiber arrangements allowing for both monitoring defined areas and precise spots in positioning.  Baumer's generation of universal fiber optic sensors is particularly ideal in materials handling where fast speeds and accurate positioning are necessary.

Baumer fiber optic sensors are unique in that they can peform the same tasks as multiple types of sensors.  Users can select between 3 to 8 different operating modes ranging from extremely short response times to high sensitivity applications.

Baumer fiber optic sensors have a specially coated sensing head that is immune to chemical substances and oil to ensure reliable detectin even under difficult conditions, i.e. filling levels or leaks in aggresive fluids.  Glass fiber optic cables in a metal sheath (reinforced) enable use under harsh conditions with excessive pressure, tension and temperature.

Baumer Fiber Optic Technology

Through-beam sensors detect whenever an object interrupts the light beam between transmitter and receiver whereas diffuse sensors acquire the amount of light reflected by an object.  Fiber optic sensors use a high-resolution analog-to-digital conversion to capture extremely small changes which allows fiber optic sensors to detect very small objects or differentiate between very fine contrasts.

Plastic fiber optic cables

Also knows as Plastic Optical Fiber (POF), plastic fiber optic cables consist of a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) core and a fluoropolymer cladding.  The plastic nature of POF provides a more rugged cable, capable of withstanding tighter bend radii than glass fiber optic cable. The benefits of POF are lower costs and easy installation than glass fiber optic cables.

Glass fiber optic cables

Glass fiber-optic cables are constructed of tiny strands of glass that are bundled together inside an application-specific sheathing like stainless steel for durability and high temperatures. They are attached to certain photoelectric sensors and guide light from the sensing head to the target. Basically, Large Core Fiber enables you to use a photoelectric sensor in areas where you wouldn’t normally be able to use them. The sensors are available with a wide range of housings, mounting styles, and features for your specific application.

Glass fiber-optic cables have an impressive temperature range, as low as -40 °F and up to +900 °F. That’s because the cables have no electrical components. They merely act as a conduit, or light guide between the target and the sensor. So, they can be used in high-temperature applications like furnaces, ovens, and condensers in large engines, and they can also be used in extremely low temperature areas such as cold storage warehouses.

And because glass cores are efficient at transmitting light, allowing for significantly higher transfer speeds, they can be used at long sensing distances. Glass fiber optic cables are extremely versatile and robust and are available in a mix of configurations, end fittings, and adapter types. Even more, glass fiber optic cables are optimized for small spaces and small targets. They can be used with both visible red and infrared light and are compatible with a long list of fiber heads.

Baumer SmartReflect SensorsIO-Link Baumer SmartReflect Light Barriers without Reflectors

  • Safe and easy referencing on machine parts
  • Short response times of < 0.25ms
  • Sensing range up to 1.9m
  • Insensitve to dirt
  • Extremely easy setup

Baumer's SmartReflect technology has reinvented the optical light barrier.  The SmartReflect technology eliminates the reflector required to reflect the light back to the sensor.  This is beneficial to the user because it allows for easier installation, less downtime due to reflector breakage or misalignment during operation and allows sensors to detect transparent objects.

Baumer SmartReflect sensors are available for most applications.  Baumer has hydiene-certified sensors for the food industry, space-saving and flexible sensors for handling applications and sensors that are easy to adjust and not sensitive to soiling or dust in the graphical industry.

Baumer's O300 and O500 SmartReflect transparent sensors set new standards in the detection of transparent objects.  The light barrier without a reflector is the only sensor in its class to detect transparent objects of any shape or structure up to a distance of 1 meter.  Both sizes are available in plastic and high grade stainless steel.  These sensors oare ideal for all applications in the packaging industry.
