The SMC AW40-03E-B filter regulator is part of SMC’s previous-generation AW-B Series. For new applications or customers looking for the current-generation equivalent, consider the SMC AW40-03E-D Filter Regulator. The newer AW-D Series continues SMC’s compact combination of air filtration and pressure regulation with an updated design.
Customers replacing an existing AW40-03E-B should confirm application requirements and compatibility before changing to the AW40-03E-D.
The SMC AW40-03E-B Filter Regulator combines compressed-air filtration and pressure regulation into a single compact air-preparation component, helping reduce installation space, piping, and the number of individual components required in a pneumatic system. Designed for industrial automation and machinery applications, the AW Series provides filtered, regulated compressed air to downstream pneumatic valves, actuators, and other equipment.
The AW40-03E-B is a body size 40 configuration with 3/8-inch Rc inlet and outlet ports. Its integrated filter provides 5 µm filtration, helping remove particulate contamination from the compressed-air supply, while the relieving regulator provides an adjustable downstream pressure range of 0.05 to 0.85 MPa. Maximum operating pressure is 1.0 MPa.
This configuration includes a square embedded pressure gauge with limit indicator, allowing regulated pressure to be monitored directly at the unit without requiring a separately mounted gauge. The AW40-03E-B also features a polycarbonate bowl with bowl guard, manual drain cock, standard left-to-right flow direction, and relieving regulator construction. The compact integrated design makes it well suited for machine building, packaging equipment, material handling systems, factory automation, and other compressed-air applications requiring both filtration and pressure control.

SMC Product Update: SMC discontinued production of the AW20–AW60-B Series in March 2025 and identifies the newer AW20–AW40-D Series as the refreshed replacement platform. The current AW-D Series maintains the space-saving integrated filter/regulator design while adding improvements such as updated handle ergonomics, enhanced bowl protection on larger body sizes, and mounting interchangeability with the previous product family. Customers designing new equipment should consider the current AW-D Series, including the corresponding AW40 configuration, while compatibility should be confirmed before replacing an existing AW40-03E-B.
