About Galil Motion Control

Precision Motion Control Since 1983

Galil Motion Control was founded in 1983 by Jacob Tal and Wayne Baron and introduced what the company identifies as the first microprocessor-based motion controller. Today Galil is headquartered in Rocklin, California, reports more than one million controllers sold worldwide and continues to focus on programmable motion control, machine I/O and application software.

Single-Axis Through 32-Axis Control

Current Galil platforms span economical single-axis control through high-axis-count EtherCAT systems, allowing the control architecture to scale with machine complexity.

Coordinated Motion & Machine I/O

Galil controllers support motion functions including independent positioning, jogging, linear and circular interpolation, electronic gearing, electronic camming, PVT and contour motion on applicable platforms, together with digital and analog I/O.

Controller-Level Programming

Galil controllers can execute application programs locally while communicating with host PCs and industrial systems, supporting machine logic, motion sequencing and I/O functions without requiring every action to originate from a host computer.

Product Areas

Explore Galil Motion-Control Products

Use these current Galil product families as a starting point for stand-alone machine motion, coordinated multi-axis automation, EtherCAT systems, PCI-based control, distributed I/O and legacy-controller migration.

Standard Ethernet Motion Controllers

The current standard-controller range includes the DMC-4000 premium multi-axis platform, DMC-4103 standard multi-axis controller and DMC-30000 single-axis family. The DMC-4000 supports up to 8 axes with 11 µs command processing, while the DMC-4103 provides 1–8 axes with Ethernet connectivity.

EtherCAT Motion Controllers

The DMC-52000 is an EtherCAT master for 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 axes with a 1 ms EtherCAT cycle. The DMC-50000 hybrid controller combines local Galil axes with EtherCAT control, supporting up to four local axes and up to eight EtherCAT axes with a maximum of eight combined.

EDD-37010 EtherCAT Smart Drives

The EDD-37010 is a single-axis EtherCAT smart drive with a built-in amplifier and daisy-chain connectivity. Current versions include an 800 W sinusoidal servo amplifier, a 1.4 A microstepping drive and a 6 A microstepping drive, providing Galil-controlled EtherCAT axis options for servo and stepper applications.

PCI Motion Controllers

Galil continues to offer PCI-bus motion control for PC-based systems. The DMC-1806 supports 1–8 axes with dual encoders per axis and expandable I/O, while the DMC-1802 supports economical 1–4 axis PCI applications.

Help Select and Apply Galil Motion Control

Our Sales and Technical Teams can help review axis count, motor and encoder type, coordinated-motion requirements, I/O, servo or stepper drive needs, Ethernet/EtherCAT architecture and host-software requirements. We can also coordinate Galil controllers with motors, drives, sensors, HMIs and supporting automation components.

Controller Architecture Selection

Compare standard Ethernet, EtherCAT master and PCI architectures based on axis count, synchronization, host interface, remote I/O and machine-performance requirements.

Servo & Stepper Application Review

Review motor type, amplifier requirements, encoder feedback, voltage, current, tuning needs and motion profile when selecting a controller and drive configuration.

Legacy Controller Migration

Identify the installed Galil controller, amplifier, I/O, software and wiring architecture before evaluating a backward-compatible replacement or broader machine-control upgrade.

WBIYII Control Assemblies

Coordinate Galil controllers, I/O, power supplies, interconnects, terminals and related controls into repeatable WBIYII assemblies or installation-ready control packages.

Selection note: Final motion-control selection should be verified against axis count, motor and encoder compatibility, servo update requirements, coordinated-motion functions, I/O count, amplifier sizing, supply voltage, communication architecture and machine safety requirements. EtherCAT drive compatibility should also be confirmed for the exact controller, firmware and drive configuration.

Related Manufacturer Directories

Galil controllers commonly integrate with servo and stepper motors, drives, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, pneumatic devices and other machine-automation components.
