The SMC AV4000-04-5DZB-A Soft Start Valve provides controlled initial pressurization and rapid exhaust for industrial pneumatic systems. Part of SMC's current AV-A Series, the valve allows the initial airflow into a pneumatic circuit to be adjusted so system pressure increases gradually, helping reduce sudden cylinder movement and mechanical shock during machine startup. When the valve is deactivated, the supply is shut off and downstream compressed air is quickly exhausted to support equipment servicing and shutdown.
The AV4000-04-5DZB-A is a body size 40 configuration with 1/2-inch Rc inlet, outlet and exhaust ports. It operates from a 24 VDC electrical supply and uses a Type D DIN terminal with connector. This configuration also includes a light and surge voltage suppressor along with a push-turn locking slotted manual override, providing convenient visual indication, electrical protection and manual valve operation when required.
An adjustable needle controls the low-speed air supply during initial startup. As downstream pressure rises to the valve's switching point, the main valve opens to provide full system airflow. This two-stage operation helps minimize sudden actuator movement while still allowing normal high-flow operation once the pneumatic circuit reaches pressure.
For the AV4000-A body size, SMC specifies a high-speed supply sonic conductance of 19.2 dm³/(s·bar) and a Cv of 5.1. The valve operates within a pressure range of 0.2 to 1.0 MPa, with a proof pressure of 1.5 MPa. For solenoid-operated AV configurations, the ambient and fluid temperature range is 0°C to 50°C. The DIN terminal configuration is rated IP65 in accordance with IEC 60529.
This exact configuration uses SMC's standard left-to-right flow direction and is supplied without a mounting bracket, pressure gauge or built-in silencer. These items are available separately where required.
